How to Import Sony PXW-X500 XAVC Files to Premiere Pro CC/CS6/CS5/CS4

You may find that Adobe Premiere won't import Sony PXW-X500 XAVC files smoothly. The easy workaround is to transcode XAVC to a more editing-friendly format for Premiere.



The new Sony PXW-X500 solid-state memory shoulder-mount camcorder, with new three-chip 2/3-inch CCD image sensors, replaces the previous PMW-500 and is made to suit HD productions such as TV drama, reality programmes, live productions, ENG and sports production. It records conventional and new formats ranging from SD formats such as MPEG IMX and DVCAM, HD formats such as MPEG-4 SStP and MPEG HD422, plus XAVC Intra 4:2:2 1080 59.94/50i and XAVC Long 4:2:2 1080 59.94/50p. While, there are a few issues when it comes to viewing, importing and editing Sony PXW-X500 XAVC files in non-linear editing software like Adobe Premiere.

Is there an easy way that allows easy import XAVC files into Adobe Premiere Pro directly, without having to use or open Sony's lousy Content Browser or other complex plug-ins. Luckily, I've figured out an effective way to import Sony PXW-X500 raw footage to Premiere Pro flawlessly. Share as below.

The XAVC video included in PXW-X500 is not compatible with most NELs just like from Sony F5/F55. To edit Sony PXW-X500 XAVC footage in Premiere Pro CS4/CS5/CS6/CC smoothly, a suggestion is to use Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac to transcode "XAVC" to MPEG-2, which is a friendly format supported by Adobe PP.

With Mac XAVC converter, you can effortlessly transcode Sony PXW-X500 XAVC files to .mpg – ensuring maximum editing quality and efficiency when working with Premiere Pro. Plus, it supports encoding XAVC/XAVC S to more video editing software compatible file types, i.e. DNxHD for Avid Media Composer, AIC MOV for iMovie 08/09/11, ProRes MOV for Final Cut Pro X/7/6, etc. If you're using a Windows, simply get the equivalent Brorsoft Video Converter to convert Sony PXW-X500 XAVC to Premiere Pro on Windows(Windows 8).

1. Download, install and run the XAVC Converter for Mac; click "Add Videos" icon to load your source XAVC videos from Sony PXW-X500.



2. Click "Format" pull down list to select Adobe Premiere/Sony Vegas> MPEG-2(*.mpg) as the best video format for Premiere Pro. WMV, MOV formats are the good choice as well. You can click Settings to adjust video and audio parameters to get the best quality video.



3. Click the "Convert" icon under the preview window, and the Mac video converter will start converting Sony PXW-X500 XAVC to Adobe Premiere Pro on Mac.

When the conversion is finished, you can click "Open" button to get the generated MPEG-2 files effortlessly. Afterwards, you can launch your editing program to import converted XAVC clips into Premiere Pro for further editing.

This Sony XAVC Converter Mac can also help you to encode XAVC/XAVC S video to FCP, iMovie, FCE, Avid, etc. You just need to choose a proper video format like " Final Cut Pro> Apple PreRes 422(*.mov)" for FCP in the second step. For Avid Media Composer, choose "Avid Media Composer > Avid DNxHD(*.mov)" as output; For iMovie, choose "iMovie and Final Cut Express -> Apple InterMediate Codec (AIC) (*.mov)" as output.
