To get Adobe Premiere CC (CS6/CS5) work with Blackmagic 4K (ProRes) footage, the easy workaround is to transcode the 4K video to a more editing-friendly format for Adobe Premiere. Here is a simple tutorial for you.

The Blackmagic Production Camera 4K is a complete self contained solution for shooting extremely high resolution Ultra HD 4K content. With a built in SSD recorder, it easily captures 4K in ProRes 422 (HQ) and compressed CinemaDNG files. As far as we know, the latest version Premiere Pro CS6, CC 7 usually can handle 4K files without much problem, but it is extremely hardware intensive. On the other hand, it is a complete nightmare to import Blackmagic 4K ProRes to Premiere Pro - it cannot recognize ProRes codec, and even worse than that is Adobe Premiere Pro(CC) will import a .MOV file of any codec -Animation/ProRes, whatever doesn't matter. There’re some frequently asked questions quoted like this:

"I am trying to open footage shot with Blackmagic 4K camera in premiere but all I get is a 1347 x something ... footage. I know Premiere CC will open it... But.. what about premiere CS6.. is tehre any trick or plugin to get it to open what is (or is supposed to be) standard 422 Pro res Quicktime File (sure.. at 3840x2160) ?"

To work Blackmagic 4K footage in Premiere CS6/CS5 or CC without any issue, the easy workaround is to convert the 4K video to a more editing-friendly format, such a Premiere's MPEG-2 codec. The process is surprisingly easy and can be done with the help of Brorsoft Video Converter for Mac. With it, you can effortlessly encode/re-encode Blackmagic 4K ProRes footage for smoothly importing and editing in various non-linear editing systems (NLE), including Adobe Premiere Pro, Avid Media Composer, Final Cut Pro, iMovie, FCE and more.
